Some Cool Groomsmen Gifts Ideas

September 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Tips

Getting cool groomsmen gifts for your best buddies might seem like a hard task. But when you think about it, it could be really easy for you. After all, there is no one who knows these guys better than you do.

A few cool groomsmen gifts are personalized shot glasses and you could choose from among a variety of styles and sizes. This would be especially perfect if your groomsmen have been your drinking buddies for a long time. You could also engrave each of their names or initials on the glasses. If you want, you could also pair these shot glasses with their favorite bottles of liquor.

When my cousin got married, he gave various gadgets to his groomsmen. It seems like a good choice because guys really seem to love electronics. My cousin gave one of his groomsmen a digital camera because the guy was into traveling and photography. He told me that as with any gifts, such as an engraved silver pocket watch, groomsmen gifts need to be suitable to the recipient and something that they would cherish. Other gadget gifts include cell phones, electric staplers, key locators, and MP3 players.

Another cool groomsmen gift is memberships in the “Of the Month” clubs. For your coffee-lover friend, you could get him gourmet coffees and new flavors would be sent to his house each month. If your buddy loves premium wines, give him the wine of the month and he would surely appreciate it. These would be cool groomsmen gifts for your longtime friends since they would get to enjoy their gifts for an entire year or for six months, whichever length of time you choose.

When my brother-in-law married my sister, he gave one of his groomsmen some gift certificates to various stores his friend loves. He wanted to give his groomsman some flexibility to choose whatever it is that his buddy wants because he was having a hard time thinking up of the perfect gift for that particular guy. If you want to give your groomsmen the same gift, you could get them gift certificates. There are different shops nowadays that offer gift certificates such as sporting goods stores, bookstores, music and video stores, as well as grocery stores. Or you could give them concert or movie tickets, if they are into music or films. You could even place the gift certificates inside a brand new wallet for every groomsman.  And don’t forget about the ring bearer gifts for the little boy in your wedding.

You could also get all the guys for a weekend getaway. If you have enough funds, you could sponsor a vacation to express your thanks. You should schedule your trip no less than two weeks prior to your wedding. You could have a fun time at a golf resort, visit New York City, have a gambling spree in Las Vegas, or you could also just have a tranquil retreat to a quaint lodge in the woods. Whatever you decide to give your friends, just make sure that it is something that they would appreciate and something that could be deemed as cool groomsmen gifts.

Will The One Dollar Coin Ever Catch On?

September 28th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Tips

Most likely, you imagine a paper dollar if you think about a dollar. A dollar, like all paper money, fits in your pocket with other dollars without being cumbersome. What if we didn’t have paper currency? What if there was a one dollar coin instead of the paper dollar? Is there generally a positive response to the one dollar coin or would most not want to use it as in the past? The fact is, most people love their paper currency and would rather collect the one dollar coin rather than spend it as currency.

The Silver Dollar

Although the one dollar coin is very attractive looking, this is perhaps its sole attractive feature. There have been various versions of the dollar coin in the past. There was the silver dollar, which has been around for a long time. Now coveted by coin collectors or melted down for their silver content, the silver dollar coin has become more rare. When you do find a silver one dollar coin, it’s almost as if you’ve found a treasure. You can either save it as part of your collection or you can spend it, as it is worth the same as your one dollar paper notes.

The Sacagawea Dollar

More recently, they have released a gold colored one dollar coin. This coin is called the Sacagawea dollar, named after the famous Native American woman printed on it. This one dollar coin quickly fizzled out, just like the silver dollar, and today it’s very rare to see one in circulation. The Sacagawea, too, is most likely in the hands of collectors. This coin probably didn’t gain acceptance for the same reason that the silver dollar coin never caught on. It is too thick and will not fold up like dollar bills. So, will the one dollar coin ever catch on? Maybe, but the government may be going about it the wrong way.

The Presidential Dollar

In 2005, President Bush signed the Presidential $1 Coin Act authorizing the United States Mint to strike $1 coins honoring America’s Presidents in the order in which they served. This coin is similar to the Sacagawea Dollar in size and color. These dollar coins began circulation in 2007 with the George Washington coin. The Presidential coins are seldom seen in circulation for many of the reasons that the Sacagawea Dollar wasn’t accepted by the general public.

Europeans Have It Right

Europe will abandon the paper currency if they begin to distribute coins like the one dollar coin so that people can’t have a choice. People aren’t going to use the one dollar coin unless the United States government makes that the best and only option. People will want less cumbersome money, a dollar which they can fold, while leaving dollar coins to collectors.

Tips To Help You Buy the Right Luggage

September 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Tips

Great luggage is an invaluable accessory when it comes to making traveling easy and convenient. It’s important that you look beyond fashion when choosing your luggage and search for functional and dependable bags. Luggage should be made to last through many years of use. Cheap bags can easily get ruined, usually when it’s least convenient.

Look for bags that are lightweight and easy to wheel around. But they must be tough. Keep in mind that luggage isn’t treated gently as you travel. During transport, your bag could be at the bottom of a pile of heavy luggage. So it’s important that you look for a tough and durable product.

Buy luggage that features durable, well-made wheels, straps, and handles. Check to be sure that they are securely fastened to the bag and try them out for ease of use.

Inspect the rollers at the bottom of the luggage. On quality bags these will be made from durable materials. If the wheels or rollers on the suitcase are manufactured out of cheap plastic, it won’t roll along smoothly and will be more inclined to toppling over.

Also, carefully check the handle of any luggage you’re considering. If it’s a retracting handle, check to see that it moves smoothly and slides into place securely. Otherwise it could bend if it comes out during baggage handling.

Pick luggage that has strong, durable zippers. If the zippers on your bags are of cheap metal construction, they’ll be more likely to pull apart at an inopportune time. Anything that puts pressure on the bag can cause the zipper to rip apart.

Examine the material the luggage is made of. Can it resist scratches and is it waterproof? Is it flimsy and easy to tear?

Before you buy any luggage consider your traveling preferences. Some people commonly check their baggage, while others prefer to pack light and use a carry on bag. As well, be aware of the size and weight, because the airlines have strict regulations for these factors.

Features that help keep you organized are important when looking at luggage. An expandable bag is useful for longer trips or for bringing home any items you purchased while away. Bags that attach to each other with a strap are also practical if you’re carrying more than one. Look for lots of pockets and compartments and organizers that will keep your outfits free of wrinkles.

Luggage can be stylish, but it doesn’t have to be a fashion statement. Choose colors that are timeless not trendy. Luggage is typically used by more than one person in a household, so pick a style and color that everyone is comfortable with.
